Airconstruct HVAC has been selected by Tenix to partner with them to supply HVAC to their Cannonvale Sewage Treatment Plant Pump room. Tenix has been awarded Australia’s first IS (Infrastructure Sustainability) ‘Excellent’ design rating, for its design of two sewage treatment plants in North Queensland for Whitsunday Regional Council. The IS scheme is Australia’s only comprehensive rating system for evaluating sustainability across the design, construction and operation of infrastructure and has been developed and is administered by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).
Tenix has designed and is constructing the Cannonvale and Proserpine treatment plants, and will then operate and maintain them under a long-term contract with Whitsunday Regional Council.
Tenix’s design will see a significant reduction in nitrogen and phosphorus being released to the environment. (Nitrogen is responsible for algal blooms and phosphorus is implicated in damage to coral.) The plant and process designs will collectively save around 306 MWh grid electricity use per annum and reduce associated carbon emissions by 272 tonnes per annum. Approximately 4,329 tonnes less concrete is being used in the build and ‘green’ concrete is being used in which 30% of the cement component has been substituted with fly ash – a waste product from a nearby power station.
The scope of services to be provided by Airconstruct HVAC includes attenuation of the pumps within the building that can be quite loud in the middle of the night. To help us deliver this project we engaged the services of an Acoustics’ Engineer Jay Carter who flew up from the Gold Coast. David Jones and Jay went to Cannonvale last Tuesday to carry out attended sound measurements at various locations in the proximity of the site.
